Hello and Welcome, ladies, dudes, and pimps alike! My name is Laura, and I’m a personal trainer based in Boston, MA.

I created this blog to help organize my thoughts and research; I figured maybe someone can benefit from my brain diarrhea.

To give you a little background on myself…

Unfortunately, I don’t really have any cool stories about how I was the fat kid or that I suffered a debilitating injury that I trained my way to awesomeness.  I can’t say I bought my first book about training when I was 8 months old. Not gunna lie, I’ve just always been pretty average. I grew up being a mild tomboy and loved sports. Soccer was my first love but I found that I really excelled in Javelin.

err.. Naht.

err..Naht

Fast forward a few years and you may have found me partying studying at UMass Amherst. I had no clue what I wanted I wanted to be when I grew up… I just knew I wanted nothing to do with history, chemistry, or equine sciences.

The best decision I ever made was taking a class called “Sports nutrition and human performance.” I was obsessed with it. It came naturally to me. I remember the last day of class my professor (the best one I ever had) said in his closing statements “Well, if you like exercise and you like science, considered being a Kinesiology major.”

Sold. If Barry says it… I’m doin it. And ladies and gents the rest is history.

Approaching graduation I had applied to Physical Therapy School and didn’t get in. And I seriously thank God for that. I wouldn’t be where I am today… At a job that I love, and knowing 10 times more about human movement than I did a year ago. Please let me be clear that I continue to learn EVERY DAY… Although I think i’m pretty clever, I still get overwhelmed with how much I DON’T know about the human body. Luckily though, I work with some pretty smart people who I can thank for helping me on this journey.

Admittedly, (I think a lot of fitness professionals can relate to this) I started in the gym doing bicep curls and spending some quality time on the good girl/bad girl machines.  I didn’t even know what a deadlift was!

Good girl.. obviously

I know now to spend my time (and my clients time) on the important things in life. Pickin up heavy $h*t! My training philosophy is to keep it simple. Get a push/pull/hinge/rotation/anti-rotation in your training every week, and you’re on you’re way to becoming awesome.

Again, I wanted to create this blog to organize my thoughts, share my what I know, and give a voice and a resource to the lady pimps ladies in the weight room. If you know me, you know I have a little bit of a ‘girl power’ attitude.

Ladies… you’re stronger than you think you are.

So this blog may evolve as I evolve; but thanks for coming along for the ride!
